How to Reduce Cooker Hood Noise?

October 12, 2021 by Pierre Ducasse

How to Reduce Cooker Hood Noise

Nothing beats having a tastefully designed kitchen with modern appliances. One of the most important appliances in the kitchen space is the cooker hood, and it is also known as the kitchen canopy, extractor hood, vent hood, and several other names. It is directly hung above the stove or cooktop in the kitchen, with the help of the mechanical fan in it, it helps to send the air generated while cooking outside through ducting.

The cooker hood equally removes airborne grease, fumes, smoke, etc. generated in the kitchen and as well evaporates any odors that are caused while food is being cooked. This kitchen device leaves your kitchen with a cleaner and healthier environment, away from the fact that it is an aesthetic plus to the kitchen.

However, as much as the thought of having a kitchen deceive that does the cleaning for you is great but as they say, everything comes with prices and one of the prices to pay for owning a cooker hood might largely be noise, yes, frustrating noises that might either not allow you sleep or wakes you up in the middle of the night.

Reducing Your Cooker Hood Noise

A lot of times, the noise by your cooker noise comes from its fan and the best way to deal with such situations is to call a professional to check it out. Using a resistor, the power generated to the fan can be reduced, but it is advisable you call the manufacturer if the Cooker hood is still in its year of warranty, a little mistake by whoever attempts to repair it might ruin it entirely. Also, the noise can be a result of a restriction on the fan blade. Hence, check the fan blade to ensure it rotates freely.

Also, that annoying noise from your Cooker Hood could be as a result of an external object trapped within the blower wheel housing. It might also be because the blower wheel is hitting the blower house while it turns. In this case, all you need to do is turn the blower wheel to inspect and ensure that it operates freely without any form of hindrance.

It should equally be noted that the excessive loud noise from your cooker hood could be coming from the Drive Motor; this exact scenario requires replacement and not repair. Ideally, the exhaust fan motor could have reached a state of excess usage, hence the noise. The motor should normally be in a fixed position, however, when it becomes tired, it begins to move and this results in the noise you hear.

Conclusion

When your kitchen’s cooker hood starts to make noise, it is always better for you to change the motor as it can’t be repaired, it is almost like attempting a cracked induction hob repair or a ceramic hob repair crack, and as soon as they are cracked they need to be changed, not repaired. Changing the paper or carbon filters is also a way to reduce noise, as well as general cleaning of the cooker hood.
